Image Formats & Conversion
What image formats does TurnPic support?
TurnPic supports conversion to and from WebP, AVIF, PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP, SVG, and ICO. You can convert any supported source format to any supported output format. Each converter page lists the specific source formats it accepts.
What is the difference between lossy and lossless compression?
Lossy compression (JPG, WebP lossy, AVIF lossy) discards some image data to achieve much smaller file sizes, with a slight reduction in visual quality. Lossless compression (PNG, WebP lossless) preserves every pixel exactly but produces larger files. Choose lossy for web photos where file size matters, and lossless for images where perfect quality is essential.
Which format should I choose for my website?
For most websites in 2026, WebP is the best default choice - it offers excellent compression and is supported by over 97% of browsers. If you need the absolute smallest files, use AVIF. For images requiring transparency, use WebP or PNG. For maximum compatibility (e.g., email), use JPEG.
Can I convert multiple images at once?
Yes, TurnPic supports batch conversion. You can upload up to 30 images in a single batch, and each image can be up to 10 MB in size. After conversion, you can download each file individually or all at once as a ZIP archive.
Will conversion reduce my image quality?
This depends on the output format and quality setting. Lossless formats (PNG, BMP) preserve all image data. Lossy formats (JPG, WebP, AVIF) allow you to control the quality level - higher settings preserve more detail while lower settings produce smaller files. At quality 80 or above, most users cannot distinguish the converted image from the original.
File Privacy & Security
Are my uploaded images safe?
Yes. All images are transferred over HTTPS and are used only to perform the requested conversion. TurnPic does not sell, share, or use your images for any purpose other than the conversion you requested. Files are not used to train machine-learning models.
How long are my files stored?
Uploaded and converted files are automatically removed after 24 hours. An automated cleanup task runs every hour to delete files that are older than 24 hours. You should download your converted files promptly after processing.
Do I need to create an account?
No. TurnPic does not require an account, registration, or login. All conversion tools are available to use immediately without providing any personal information.
Is TurnPic free to use?
Yes. All image conversion and editing tools on TurnPic are completely free to use with no subscription, no hidden fees, and no usage limits. The service is supported by advertising to cover hosting and maintenance costs.
